The best Bordeaux 2015 white wines were to be found in Pessac-Léognan, according to Decanter’s Bordeaux 2015 scores released last week.
Smith-Haut-Lafitte’s 2015 dry white wine proved to be something of a surprise package by coming in level with Haut-Brion’s 2015 white, on 96 points.
Believe it or not, Bordeaux used to produce more white wine than red wine, as Decanter contributing editor Jane Anson highlighted in a recent column for Decanter.com.
Today, some critics worry about the encroachment of Sauvignon Blanc on Bordeaux’s signature white grape, Semillon. Yet, there has been something of a resurgence in recognition for Bordeaux’s dry whites in recent years.

Château Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France, 2015

An outstanding white. 69% Sauvignon Blanc, 31% Sémillon with a pH of 3.14 (the lowest since 2010). This is focused and stunningly aromatic, even though...

40% each Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris plus 20% Sémillon. Now one of the top dry whites in Bordeaux. Serious and refined on the nose with citrus and exotic fruit notes. Beautifully constructed palate with drive and persistence as well as mid-palate depth. Harmonious and can age.

One of the great whites of Bordeaux, and in 2015 the lower acidity of the vintage is reflected in the dominance of forward, exotic apricot, nectarine and juicy peach fruit. This is a vintage that will attract many people who might feel Bordeaux white is normally too sharp; here it delivers freshness with a rounded edge.

Superb 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Lovely white flowers nose then lively and fresh on the palate, showing beautifully sappy, ripe flavours and a long, lifted finish.

Apricot stones with fleshy nectarines and citrus zest – this pulls off a weighty yet restrained feel that could just do with the tiniest more grip on the finish to really take off. But still a very lovely full and persistent wine. Would be great with food.
