John Stimpfig compares the spakling rosés of England with those of Champagne. Is there a clear winner?
In my final report in this mini-series I will take a look at the sparkling rosés I tasted at a recent head-to-head tasting, pitting English sparkling wine against Champagne.
For some tasters, the Britpack performed the best in the rosé category.I was less convinced, with the exception of a couple of notable wines. I was underwhelmed by the Nyetimber 1086 Rosé, and normally I love the Wiston Estate 2014 Rosé, but sadly not on this occasion.
On a more positive note, this category is so much improved compared to a decade ago. That Hush Heath’s Balfour Rosé tied second-place with two big names of Champagne gives an optimistic glimpse of the future of the UK wine industry.
English fizz is knocking on the door of Champagne and I, for one, am enjoying the increased competition that it continues to provide.

This starts with a very attractive nose of cox’s apple and pomegranate. It feels very young and a little tight on the palate. The lees and the fruit haven't quite resolved with each other, and the finish is still a little raw.
