Rioja sales reach new high in 2014

Global Rioja sales have continued their resurgence started in 2013, reaching a record 281m litres last year and with exports up by 3.5%, show official figures.
The top 10 export markets for Rioja wine
Rioja exports increased by 3.5% in 2014 to nearly 106m litres, or the equivalent of 141m bottles, according to the Rioja DOCa council.
The graph above shows that the UK maintained its dominance as the top international market for Rioja last year. Exports to the UK rose by 10%, but there were also gains elsewhere.
Shipments to Mexico rose by almost 28% to the equivalent of 3.5m bottles. But, exports to the US dipped by around 2% to 13.7m bottles – a trend that may concern some producers.
