Best buys from Marks & Spencer: Top bottles to drink now

The big news at this year's M&S Autumn Tasting is the launch of a capsule fine wine collection for Christmas. Intended to take you right through from aperitif to cheese and dessert, the range of 12 bottles includes Champagne, Chablis, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Barolo, Pauillac, Sauternes and a stunning vintage Port.

'Customers are increasingly looking to treat themselves and their guests at Christmas, but they also value a helping hand when making a special purchase,' says Nicola Jones, trading manager for wine. 'We've carefully selected a collection of exceptional fine wines. It takes the guesswork out of choosing, making it easier than ever to enjoy your gift truly memorable bottles this festive season.'

Prices range from £32 up to £70 per bottle. All of these new Christmas wines are available to order online from 22 September and collect in-store between 22-24 December 2026. You can see my top choices from the range in the recommendations below.

Celebrate with crémant

If you're in search of more reasonably priced bottles for festive parties and celebrations, the good news is that M&S has expanded its selection of wallet-friendly French crémants. These sparklers are made in the same way as Champagne, but from different regions. New bottles to make a beeline for include the Classics No42 Crémant de Bordeaux (see tasting note below).

Crémant is now the fastest growing area of sparkling wine in Marks. 'We're seeing customers become much more adventurous in the sparkling wines they choose,' says Sue Daniels, winemaker for sparkling wines at M&S.

'While Champagne will always have its place, more people are discovering crémant for its exceptional quality, regional character and value. Whether it's from Burgundy, Bordeaux or Alsace these wines offer all the craftsmanship of traditional-method winemaking, and it's exciting to see customers embracing them for everything from weekend lunches to bigger celebrations.'

Home-grown heroes

Speaking of sparklers, English sparkling wine is continuing to fly off the shelves at M&S. Sales have overtaken those of Cava, growing 32% year-on-year. Alongside the excellent own-label Rockferne English fizz – made for Marks by Roebuck Estate – look out for new additions to the range from top producer Dermot Sugrue with his Artelium label and a brilliant blanc de blancs from Wiston Estate in West Sussex.

These new bottles are part of the biggest-ever range of English wines from M&S, 14 new arrivals spanning vineyards from Cornwall to Norfolk. Our customers increasingly recognise the quality of English wine and want to support local producers, says Dror Nativ MW, senior buyer for English wines.

'But it's not just about Providence: English wines are now winning some of the world's most prestigious wine awards and customers know they're buying bottles that can stand alongside the very best.'

Award-winners

Speaking of awards, the Autumn Tasting showcased a raft of bottles that have picked up gongs in this year's Decanter World Wine Awards. They include several bottles from the excellent Found range of under-the-radar grapes and styles. Check out the Great Value Gold Found Kratosija from North Macedonia and the Found Palomino from South Africa (tasting note below).

Meanwhile Champagne lovers should snap up the Platinum-winning Delacourt Blanc de Blancs Brut 2017 – 'A dazzling complexity of peach, apricot, quince and golden apple with lashings of toasted bread and brioche' – £35, from Ocado. Impressively, the own-label Delacourt Champagnes have now overtaken several well-known grandes marques to become the third-largest Champagne brand in major UK supermarkets in terms of volume sales.

M&S wines are now sold online via Ocado. Wine is only sold as part of the retailer’s range of gift packs on the M&S website.

Christmas Wines are also available to order online and collect in-store between 22-24 December 2026.
