For a long time, the Mayu Syrah was a reliable go-to weekday red in the Majestic range. The Syrah isn't showing online at the moment, but this Carménère is a decent substitute if you're looking for something full-bodied and full of flavour. Exclusive to Majestic, it's made using the appassimento method, which here sees 60% of the grapes left on the vine until they start to shrivel, concentrating the sugars. A portion of the final blend spends eight months in American oak, lending a sweet spice and structure to a wine that shows dark, peppery blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. Perfect on a chilly autumn evening. Mix six price £12.50
