Best 2018 Bordeaux second wines: Re-tasted in the bottle
Jane Anson has tasted hundreds of recently-bottled Bordeaux 2018 wines and here we bring you her top-scoring second wines from some of the region's most famous châteaux.

Decanter’s Bordeaux correspondent Jane Anson tasted more than 550 wines from the Bordeaux 2018 vintage now that they’ve been bottled, including second wines from some of the regions most famous châteaux.
These include those from estates with 100 point grand vins; Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Ausone and Château Cheval Blanc.
Second wines with tasting notes and scores from other estates listed below include: Château Margaux, Château Léoville Las Cases, Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Château Batailley, Vieux Château Certan, Château Angélus and Château Montroseamong others.
All the wines scored between 92 and 94 points.

Jane Anson was Decanter’s Bordeaux correspondent until 2021 and has lived in the region since 2003. She writes a monthly wine column for Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post, and is the author of Bordeaux Legends: The 1855 First Growth Wines (also published in French as Elixirs). In addition, she has contributed to the Michelin guide to the Wine Regions of France and was the Bordeaux and Southwest France author of The Wine Opus and 1000 Great Wines That Won’t Cost a Fortune. An accredited wine teacher at the Bordeaux École du Vin, Anson holds a masters in publishing from University College London, and a tasting diploma from the Bordeaux faculty of oenology.
