In addition to the hundreds of recently-bottled Bordeaux wines Jane Anson usually tastes for her in bottle report, this one included the full line up of dry whites from both Médoc classifications.
Those of particular interest included the first vintage of Brane Cantenac’s new white as well as the new dry white from Château Climens, Asphodèle.
Of this wine, Anson wrote: ‘It’s a 100% Sémillon, as with the main wine, and also biodynamic, made in collaboration with Loire legend Pascal Jolivet (he worked just on this first vintage with them, making it a reason in itself to track down a bottle).’

Having previously tasted the wines en primeur Anson kept her rating for the dry whites the same at 3.5/5 for the vintage.
Of the white wines from Pessac-Léognan and Graves, Anson said they have ‘lower acidity than in vintages like 2017 or 2016, but plenty of sappy acidities all the same, and seductive stone fruit flavours as most whites were safely in the cellars before the drought intensified over September’.
In Sauternes, Anson said: ‘the dry whites saw some of their earliest harvesting in their history (August 13 at Yquem), and again it was a great addition to the tastings this year to taste the dry whites of the classified estates’.
The highest scoring dry white wines are listed below. Many are all drinking well now or will reach the start of their drinking window within the next 12 months, and all should continue to shine for many years to come.
