Actors Matthew Goode and Matthew Rhys star in new wine show

A new television series that promises to ‘revolutionise’ the way wine is discovered and enjoyed will be aired on ITV in the UK this spring. Read more details and see a trailer below.

The Wine Show stars actors Matthew Goode and Matthew Rhys, along with wine experts Joe Fattorini and Amelia Singer, and visits 12 countries on six continents during 13 hour-long programmes.

Goode has been in several films, including most recently the Imitation Game, while Rhys is known for Brothers & Sisters and the Americans television series.

Programme maker Infinity Creative Media promises to take viewers ‘on a fresh, informative and entertaining journey into wine’, with ‘enthusiastic novices’ Goode and Rhys exploring everyday wines and some of the world’s most famous labels.

Based in a villa in the Italian countryside, the pair are set a new challenge every week, exploring different parts of Italy and uncovering the country’s wines and the stories that surround them.

‘Fun doesn’t come close’

‘My late father elicited my interest in wine, bless him, and it has become a life-long love affair,’ said Goode. ‘Matthew Rhys and I had so much fun pootling around Italy garnering more and more information on this sensational liquid … Actually, the word “fun” doesn’t even really come close.’

Rhys said he had ‘never tasted’ wine before the show and added: ‘This show will help you buy better, especially for high days, holidays and Christmas.’

‘Wine is about so much more than what’s in your glass,’ added Fattorini. ‘It’s about the people who make it and the beautiful places it’s grown. It’s magical to meet passionate winemakers and grape growers, and visit places you normally only read about in books or magazine articles.’

The series also tasks 12 leading chefs, including Atul Kochhar, Michael Caines, Jose Pizarro and Peter Gordon, with cooking the perfect meal to accompany their favourite wine.

Viewers will also be able to buy a selection of the wines featured in the series, thanks to a partnership between producer Infinity Creative Media and Amazon.co.uk.
