Pichon Baron – clarification

On 14 June, in a story on Bordeaux 2006, we quoted Berry Bros and Rudd wine director Simon Staples as saying that at £550 per case, Berry Bros had 'walked away from every case' of Second Growth Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron.

Simon Staples would like to make clear that he did not mean to direct his remarks at only one chateau and that he included Pichon Lalande, Cos d’Estournel and other second growths in his disapproval of pricing policy.

He also wants to make clear that BBR have not declined every case of the offer but have taken only a very small percentage of their allocation. ‘I meant to say that we have effectively walked away from second growths in 2006,’ he said.

‘Of the 4000 cases of more higher profile seconds (Cos, the Pichons, and Montrose) we bought last year, we have only bought 555 cases this year and all to order.’
