Premiere Napa Valley auction raises $1.46m

US$1.46m (€1.1m) was raised for charity at the ninth Premiere Napa Valley auction on Saturday, with one 5-case lot going for a staggering US$50,000.

All of the 165 lots on sale were sold. They included a 5-case lot of Rombauer 2003 Stag’s Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon, 10 cases of Backus Premiere 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon from Joesph Phelps and 10 cases of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. These top-selling lots went for US$50,000 (€37,725), $48,000 (€36,214) and $34,000 (€26,652) respectively.

Other lots included offerings from more top California producers including Silver Oak, Shafer, Staglin and Viader.

The three-hour long auction saw 1,135 cases of wine sold and raised 48% more than last year’s event which made $987,200 (€744,861).

The money raised goes to community organisations sponsored by Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) association, which also sponsors the newly-renamed Auction Napa Valley held in the summer.
