See Tom Cannavan's top six Suertes del Marqués wines - from an up and coming producer in Spain's Tenerife.
Suertes del Marqués with it’s ancient island vineyards and organically farmed indigenous grapes is fast becoming known as one of the most exciting wineries in Tenerife and Spain.
Located in the valley of La Orotava, on the slopes of Tenerife’s volcano El Teide, Suertes del Marqués was founded in 2006 by owner Jonatan Garçia Lima. The estate is based on a patchwork of ancient vineyards, and many of Suertes del Marqués’ plots are more than 100 years old.
The winery uses organic farming techniques and only indigenous grapes. Here Tom Cannavan picks his top six Suertes del Marqués wines to try.

Suertes del Marques, Vidonia Blanco, Valle de la Orotava, Tenerife, Spain, 2013

95
From four plots, the 100% Listán Blanco comes from 130-year-old vines. Like a fine Meursault nutty yet braced by complex, flinty minerals. Rounder and more generous than the Trenzado Blanco (below), this is a limpid wine of shimmering elegance and deliciously well balanced.

Maceration and fermentation in concrete tanks, then a year in barrel (10% new). It is a fruit- forward 100% Listán Negro and seems fruitier and denser than the yet-to-be-released 2013 (18pts), though without the Atlantic-influenced alertness.
