The alarm system sounded, but by the time the police arrived, the thieves had gone, and 380 half bottles of the 2010 vintage (worth around €330 per bottle, or €125,400) had been taken.

The police in the local town of Langon are investigating the theft, a spokesperson confirmed to Decanter.com.

Chateau d’Yquem also confirmed the theft.

Yquem has made no 2012 vintage of its wine, and held back its 2011 from en primeur until putting in on the market earlier this year, being sold for the first time at a Paris auction in February.

The winning bidder of the first lot received a lunch at the chateau along with the wine.
