And the winner is...

Charles Heidsieck, Blanc des Millénaires,
Champagne, France 1995

Last year , with some temerity, the UK’s new kid on the block, Ridgeview, took the spoils. It made it to the final this year as well, but has been usurped by one of Champagne’s most prestigious houses.

Blanc de Millénaires blends five great Chardonnay crus: Avize, Cramant, Mesnilsur- Oger, Oger and Vertus. With a  dosage of 13.6 grams per litre, the 1995 is not only a slow developer, but built to age gracefully. Critics have often pondered why Charles Heidsieck ceased production of Champagne Charlie, its former prestige cuvée. The answer is Blanc de Millénaires.
