Margaux 2021 in bottle: Overview plus top-scoring wines
See tasting notes and scores for the top-performing Margaux wines from the difficult 2021 vintage in Bordeaux now that they have been bottled.
A personal favourite appellation of mine in 2021 despite some unevenness. Average yields were higher than in 2020, but Margaux also has the highest overall yield relative to the 10-year average meaning that, despite its size and attacks of frost and mildew, it suffered a little less than other appellations in 2021.

Château Palmer is an absolute standout from the recent tastings as is the second wine Alter Ego with extreme care taking during the growing season, harvest and ageing.
Châteaux Margaux is excellent while Brane-Cantenac and Rauzan-Ségla are also very good. Improvements from Primeurs include d’Issan and Cantenac Brown with lovely elegance and finesse on show. Giscours, Marquis de Terme, Prieuré-Lichine, Dauzac, Du Tertre are also notable.
The worst wines are rustic and austere with acidity outplaying fruit density but overall there is a lot to like from Margaux with many wines showing gorgeous aromatic profiles, juicy acidities, cool fruit and creamy aspects to the tannins.
