The Cru Bourgeois tasting was highly instructive, and I tasted over 100 bottles overall from this group.
The results were fairly mixed.
The bold style of 2018 is not typical of some appellations in Médoc, and you will find a few drying tannins from over-concentration – along with some excellent quality wines.
This year also saw the launch of the three-tier Cru Bourgeois system, so look out for the newly-christened Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnels.
In these appellations they are:
- Agassac
- Arnauld
- Bellle-Vue
- Cambon La Pelouse
- Charmail
- de Malleret
- du Taillan
- Malescasse
- Lestage
Outside of this classification, there are many brilliant wines that have chosen for various reasons not to be included.
Look out for/Values:
- Beaumont
- Malescasse
- Belle-Vue
- Caronne Ste-Gemme
- Domaine Andron
- Les Vimières
