Harvest dates varied in Morey, although this was more a reflection of individual style than varying conditions.
Domaine Dujac was among the first to pick. They picked the young Pinot Noir at risk of sunburn first before moving on to Puligny-Montrachet on September 10 and 11 and finishing the reds by September 19.
Overall, he was satisfied with the size of the crop, which ended up being larger than that of 2020, but smaller than those from 2016 – 2018, and also more homogeneous.
Alec Seysses feels the slightly larger yields of recent vintages help to balance the rising temperatures of global warming. ‘Under-ripeness is no longer the issue in Burgundy; over-ripeness is the thing you have to be careful of.’
Everyone had slightly different challenges.
Jacques Devauges recently made the switch from Clos de Tart to Clos des Lambrays and began converting the property to organic certification.
Yields were reduced to 15hl/ha by the combined effects of the conversion, the disruption to flowering and the two heatwaves.

Domaine Hubert Lignier was among the last to pick here, between September 16 and 24.
Laurent Lignier was pleased with the results: ‘2018 was more tannic, but 2019 showed more finesse, with a beautiful density all the same.’
