Cù Bòcan Creation #8
Now here’s a niche claim to fame: this is reputedly the first peated Scotch to be matured in ice wine casks. Never mind – Cù Bòcan’s experimental releases have been worth watching for years now. This eighth incarnation combines the ice wine element with spirit aged in ex-Verdejo casks to conjure a lip-smacking combination of ripe tropical fruits and lime leaf, along with fragrant, earthy smoke and a herbal edge. Alc 46%
Glen Moray Forbidden Fruit
Part of the Speyside distillery’s experimental Xperience range, this is mainly matured in ex-bourbon and then finished in ex-Calvados casks, sweetening Moray’s juicily fruity character yet further, with plenty of vanilla and light caramel too. Easy-drinking – refreshing, even – and a great summer whisky for sipping or mixing. Good value, with the only minor quibble the low bottling strength. Alc 40%

Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malts Festival Edition 2026 7 Year Old
These annual festival releases are both highly collectable and generally excellent value. Here, relative youth makes for a vibrant, energetic character in a medium-peated malt that’s enjoyed classic maturation in ex-bourbon casks before a six-month finish in ruby Port casks – bringing plenty of ripe red apple and a suggestion of cassis to a mouthwateringly saline, gently smoky whisky. Alc 53.9%
Loch Lomond The Open 19 Year Old
Loch Lomond is the official spirit of The Open golf championship, and this is one of two single malts released to mark the 154th tournament at Royal Birkdale. It’s a toasty whisky, with lots of spice and vanilla from American oak, as well as fruits of the forest notes from part-ageing in ex-tawny Port casks. Decent value in today’s market, and distinguished by a long finish and just a whisper of smoke. Alc 46.9%
Michter’s US*1 Barrel Strength Rye
It’s nearly 30 years since Joseph Magliocco revived the Michter’s name, buying the trademark for a princely US$245. Since then, the now Kentucky-based distillery has built a lofty reputation for whiskey excellence, with rye at its heart. This is punchy, but also relaxed enough to let the fruit shine through alongside the peppery spice. The perfect Manhattan whiskey? Alc 55.1%
Old Pulteney 10 Year Old 200th Anniversary Distillery Exclusive
It’s two centuries since the first spirit ran from the inimitably quirky Pulteney distillery in the far northern fishing port of Wick. The spirit character here can be divisive – funky, appropriately maritime but always deep and resonant – and this commemorative bottling celebrates that with lots of dried fruit, baking spices and salted caramel. Alc 50.4%
Port Askaig Sherry Cask
Some have voiced scepticism about the combination of peated whisky with ex-Sherry casks but, when done well, it can bring new layers of richness and complexity. That’s very much the case with this new permanent addition to the Port Askaig Islay single malt range, which has a meaty, peppery core with juicy cassis fruit and dark chocolate. Fiercely flavoursome. Alc 50.5%
Redbreast 20 Year Old Oloroso Casks
Sherried single pot-still Redbreast is invariably a marvellous thing – especially in this Whisky Exchange exclusive, where the use of third-fill ex-oloroso casks allows the perfumed distillate to shine. Tangy pear and apple, light spice, then fig and dried apricot from the wood… A drop or two of water makes it even more aromatic and soft, without sacrificing depth. Alc 60%
Rosemaund 10 Year Old The Orchard Cut
A superb example of the sometimes underrated Linkwood, bottled exclusively for The Whisky Exchange by Signatory Vintage. This is a straight-down-the-line, pitch-perfect combination of distillery character and quality American oak: wildflower meadow, lemongrass and confectioner sweetness, then pastel de nata and a gentle undertow of baking spices. In the current whisky climate, it’s also excellent value for money. Alc 58.7%
Torabhaig Taigh
This Isle of Skye distillery has become known for a series of excellent, if somewhat in-your-face, limited releases – often fiercely peaty and bottled at high strengths. This first core Torabhaig expression shows the distillery getting into its stride, bringing out some beautifully sweet orchard fruit notes alongside soft bonfire smoke and rounded toasty notes from a combination of ex-bourbon and wine casks. Alc 46%
