Champagne Ambassador’s award applications open

Know your brut natural from your Bouzy? The CIVC is looking for a European ambassador to represent its wines.

The annual Champagne Ambassador’s award, run by the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC), aims to recognise and reward the work of wine educators from across Europe.

Entry is open to tutors from Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland and the theme of the 2010 award is the ‘diversity’ of Champagne.

Finalists from the UK will invited to the Dorchester Hotel in London, with the winner heading off on a trip to Champagne to compete in the European final.

Last year’s overall winner, Richard Bampfield MW, said he was ‘delighted’ at the number of Champagne tastings he now presents, as a result of the award.

‘These, after all, give me even more opportunities to indulge in one of my favourite activities, tasting and drinking Champagne.’

The deadline for entries is 5 July 2010, and hopefuls can submit their entries at http://lesambassadeursduchampagne.com/
