Christie’s hires Bill Blatch as consultant

Bordeaux veteran Blatch will be tasked with discovering 'unique and interesting' crus.

Auction house Christie’s has appointed Bordeaux wine expert Bill Blatch to help it uncover hidden ‘crus’.

Blatch will join Christie’s France as International Wine Consultant and will be based in Bordeaux, where he has lived since 1974 and not missed an en primeur campaign since 1970.

A well-known figure in the wine trade, Blatch is known for his detailed reports on Bordeaux vintages and his work as a ‘negoce’. Last March, he retired from the Vintex negociants he founded in 1982.

‘His role concentrates especially in finding unique and interesting crus to include in Christie’s international wine sales,’ said Christie’s.

In 2012, Christie’s’ international wine department reported record sales of EUR90m.

Most recently, Blatch has been a driving force behind Bordeaux Gold, a company specialising in Sauternes and Barsac.
