Decanter writers scoop top awards

A trio of Decanter writers has just won some of the wine world’s most prestigious awards.

Andrew Jefford, John Livingstone-Learmonth and Tom Stevenson scooped three international gongs at the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards 2006, announced last week.

One of Decanter’s longest-standing columnists, Jefford won International Wine Writer of the Year for work in Decanter magazine, Waitrose Food Illustrated and the Financial Times

Livingstone-Learmonth – whose vintage report on the Northern Rhone 2004 appears in the July issue of Decanter – won International Wine Book of the Year for his Wines of the Northern Rhone.

And Stevenson, who chairs the Champagne panel for the Decanter World Wine Awards and writes frequently for the magazine and decanter.com, won International Champagne Writer of the Year.

Other awards were won by Christine Austin for work in the Yorkshire Post, and Philip Williamson and David Moore for their guide Wine Behind the Label.

The panel of judges included Decanter consultant editor Steven Spurrier, Gerard Basset of the Hotel du Vin, Robert Joseph and Waitrose wine buyer Dee Blackstock.
