Success for Decanter’s first Vendanges on Bond St

Last night, Decanter subscribers witnessed London’s famous Bond Street play host to some of wine’s foremost names as the world’s leading retail brands combined luxury shopping with an evening of fine wine and Champagne tasting.

Named ‘Vendanges on Bond’, the exclusive event saw over 30 participating retailers including Burberry, Mulberry, Rolex and Piaget offer some of the most prestigious wines and Champagnes in the world including Chateau Giscours, Petit Cheval, Louis Roederer and Billecart Salmon, alongside expert sommeliers to educate and entertain visitors about wine tasting.

Previously launched in Paris and Monte Carlo, Vendanges on Bond chose to partner with Decanter magazine for its first UK event, offering Decanter magazine subscribers and events attendees exclusive access.

Decanter Publishing Director Sarah Kemp said: ‘I think it was a fabulous opportunity for our subscribers to have a more relaxed and fun evening out, tasting wine in one of the greatest shopping streets in the world.

‘It was very different for Decanter but we thought it was great for people just to really enjoy themselves and taste wine in a different setting, and these weren’t just any wines, we actually had some fantastic ones to taste including Ruinart and Cheval des Andes.

‘It was a brand new experience and there was a really wonderful pre-Christmas atmosphere of fun and enjoyment and of good living and everything that wine should be about.’

Speaking about the event Decanter subscriber Nina McGuinness said: ‘I loved the getting the invite for tonight, I think it’s a great idea. I’m really into fine wine so enjoyed the Pomerol and Chateau Belle Brise. I would definitely come again next year.’

Andrew Sneddon, also a Decanter subscriber said: ‘I was really happy when I got the invite; it’s a great benefit of being a subscriber to the magazine and I thought it would be a good occasion to come out and try some wines. We liked the Chateau Giscours and tried some of the English sparkling wine which was a little bit sweet but still quite nice. I was also surprised at how many wines there were.’

The evening also saw Decanter editor Guy Woodward and wine expert Oz Clarke switch on the Christmas lights, plus entertainment from carol singers, jugglers and a jazz band.
