Top Cape estate goes under the hammer

A South African wine estate is coming up for auction – complete with an 1860 manor house, restaurant and guesthouse, conference centre and reservoir.

The 300-year-old Zorgvliet Estate is in the heart of Cape wine country, an area highly-rated for its red wines. The property is expected to fetch between R20m and R40m (€1.9m-€3.8m).

Situated in the Banghoek valley in Stellenbosch, the 86ha estate has 40ha under vine, planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Malbec but also with substantial plantings of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

‘We are expecting a very successful auction and have already had a number of inquiries,’ Willie van Rensburg of South African auctioneers Auction Alliance said. ‘The inquiries so far have come mostly from overseas buyers, including businessmen from the UK and US.’

The auction takes place at 11am on 12 March. Contact Auction Alliance, +27 (0)21 872 6533 for details.
