Vanquish tackles ‘authenticity issue’

Vanquish, the London partner of Spectrum Wine Auctions, is trying to establish the authenticity of 21 lots removed from its auction on 8 February.

Questions were raised in advance of the auction over label and capsule discrepancies on wines including Burgundy Grand Cru, Domaine de la Romanee Conti, and were subsequently withdrawn from the sale.

Richard Brierley, Vanquish auctioneer told decanter.com, ‘We are working with consignors and will take the bottles to the producers to try to get to the bottom of the authenticity issue’.

‘It’s essential to focus on the right authority to give us the guidance that we need. We have learnt some lessons from this, but we will certainly be back,’ he added.

Eight lots of Burgundy’s Domaine Comte de Vogüé were withdrawn from the auction and a meeting has been arranged with the producer.
