While the famous Italian reds such as Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino and Amarone garner most of the international praise, spare a thought for the unsung grapes – of which there are hundreds of indigenous varieties – that can be picked up for a fraction of the cost but offer immediate drinking pleasure.
