1980 vintage guide for Red Rhone

drink soon

Hermitage produced the best wines. In the south the weather was excellent throughout the summer, but the crop was large

Weather Conditions

The spring was cold and wet in both north and south, resulting in a delayed flowering. The weather warmed up in the north from mid-July, and there was a large crop of healthy grapes.

Best Appellations

Condrieu did not fare as well as other white wines from the north, but they will have been drunk by now. The reds in both north and south proved enjoyable, medium-bodied wines for relatively early consumption.

Best Producers

La Mouline and La Landonne from Guigal are still drinking well, but they do not merit further keeping. Cornas from Juge and Clape were also good.

In the south, Beaucastel notably stood out.
