1992 vintage guide for Red Rhone

drink soon

Despite optimistic early reports, the reds proved to be dilute and often ‘green’

Weather Conditions

The spring was hot in the north, but there was rain at flowering and for many weeks thereafter, exposing many vineyards to mildew. August was hot, but then rain returned, with rot in its wake. The south fared slightly better, although very wet weather affected quality at Gigondas and Vacqueyras, and quality at Châteauneuf depended on whether the grapes were picked before or after the heavy rain that fell on 22 September.

Best Appellations

North: despite optimistic early reports, the reds proved to be dilute and often green.
