Have you ever experienced the wonders of the Maremma? Centred in the province of Grosseto in the southernmost reaches of Tuscany, the classic image of hilltop villages, cypress trees and historic wine estates found further north makes way for a rugged landscape of vineyards weaving between scrub, olive groves, and nature reserves.

A Mediterranean paradise like no other, this region brings together nature, gastronomy and contemporary winemaking in absolute harmony.

Local and international stars

Although wine has been made here since the time of the Etruscans, it is only recently that its true potential has started to be recognised. The area’s vibrant Vermentino whites have become highly acclaimed, ably expressing the windswept terrain with a distinctly salty tang.

Meanwhile, local stars Ciliegiolo and Alicante permit the province’s reds to stand apart from Tuscany’s typical Sangiovese, giving a unique voice to the landscape.

Accompanied by a clutch of international big hitters including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot, the Maremma is capable of producing delicious rosé and world-class reds, full of the sun’s generous warmth, the sea’s freshness, and the energy of the soils.

Maremma Toscana DOC wines are made across the entire province of Grosseto, a vast area in southern Tuscany. Some 9,480ha of vineyards span the slopes of Mount Amiata, the Maremma coastline, the Argentario peninsula, and the island of Giglio.

The extremely diverse conditions provided by each of these areas not only allows for a wide selection of grape varieties to flourish, but also deeply influences the characteristics of the wines made in this beautiful part of Tuscany.
