Some good wines although often compared to the fabulous 1969 and 1971
2/5
Weather Conditions
The budding was late but intermittent showers encouraged the vegetation until the perfect flowering in June which forecast a large vintage. There was mixed weather through July and most of August but plenty of sunshine in September guaranteed a good ripening of the grapes.
Best Appellations
Although many good wines were made, particularly at Kabinett level, and they lasted well in bottle, almost all are now past their best. The wines in general had good acidity but lacked body. The reputation of this vintage suffered from being sandwiched between the great 1969 and the fabulous 1971.
Best Producers
It was only possible to make fine Spatleses and Ausleses from the very best vineyards.
