The pinnacle of Chablis, formed of seven distinct climats, located on the right bank of the Serein river, with a prime southwest exposition in the main. Running from west to east, one finds Bougros, Preuses, Vaudésir, Grenouilles, Valmur, Les Clos and Blanchots, the latter having a different, easterly exposition.
La Moutonne is an unofficial eighth grand cru which lies in both Preuses and Vaudésir, while Les Bouguerots is a distinctive section within Bougros. Chablis grand cru is a noble wine, usually with a higher proportion of oak used within the blend and one which will benefit from long-term ageing.
2022 vintage
In 2022, some Bougros (an early-ripening site) seem a little broad, while the cooler Valmur has provided extra freshness and tension. Les Clos combines power, grace, and the best producers have made wines which will last for several decades.
