Château d'Aqueria, Héritage d'Aqueria, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

A particularly floral expression, with oak spice notes bringing complexity but not dominating. Lovely texture and will work well on the dinner table. Saline, sapid finish. Limestone terroir, vinified in demi-muids, one third new.

With its peach, citrus rinds and green apple, this is clean, clear and vivid. Surprisingly full-bodied with ample puppy fat and a full, rich mouthfeel, it's all driven by citrussy acidity, which extends the finish. A firm and confident style.

Domaine de la Mordorée, La Reine des Bois, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

White flowers and candied citrus peels on the nose. Full-bodied, fresh and generous, with good supporting acidity – really quite vibrant acids, which makes for a well-balanced style.

Château de Montfaucon, Baron Louis, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

Good weight and intensity, although not a huge concentration of fruit. It's quite a structural style that works around acidity and tannin. This will take time to come round but should be precise and complex when ready. Also contains 5% each of Carignan, Counoise and Mourvèdre. From 50- to 80-year-old vines, this will have a three-year maturation in mixed containers, no new oak.

Château Boucarut, Pierres Vivantes, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

This has a bit more energy and intensity than most Liracs, coupled with dried-herb complexity on both the nose and palate, all lifted by a jolt of volatile acidity. A textural style of Lirac.

Lovely, deep bay leaf and black olive notes. Fresh, with pixelated tannins and a long finish. Good sense of energy and precision.

Alain Jaume & Fils, Domaine Clos de Sixte, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

Brambly, expressive, full-bodied, all nicely ripe and concentrated. It's still fresh though, with a mass of ripe tannin that should help this stay the course.

Domaine Giraud, Les Sables d'Arène, Lirac, Rhône, France, 2024

An elegant rose and raspberry-scented style. This is a fine Lirac that's drinkable and well balanced with sappy raspberry acidity and a fresh finish.

Domaine l'Anglore, Les Sables, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

Pale red, with a soft, elegant and open palate of crushed strawberry, apricot and fine tannins with some depth of flavour. No huge length at this stage but so bright, cleansing and sapid. Organic, harvested by hand, carbonic maceration, no filtration, malolactic completed.

Pink peppercorn, hibiscus, cranberry and raspberry scents leap from the glass. The wine has low acidity, but a lovely sense of tension and salinity that brings balance and freshness. So drinkable and refreshing. From a blend of Tavel soils, some very old vines, a mix of Grenache, Cinsault, Clairette and Carignan. Will be released in spring 2026.

Château d'Aqueria, Héritage d'Aqueria, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

Aromatic and floral, with a sweetness to the strawberry fruits, a silky texture, bright acidity and a long finish. An elegant style that you could drink on its own or with food. Saline, mouthwatering, a touch more body and length compared to the cuvée classique. 36-hour maceration, aged in concrete vats for nine months.

Roc des Pins, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

Cherry and raspberry aromas, the Cinsault really makes itself known. Fairly full-bodied, it has weight on the palate and good concentration of fresh cherry and a lifted finish. Mineral and sapid, this is an excellent, contemporary Tavel. Feather-light yet deep, from old bush vines grown on limestone. Five days infusion, then aged in Stockinger demi-muids for six months.

Lightly perfumed with raspberry and wild strawberry aromas. Bright acidity, a mineral note on the finish that is slightly saline with good length. A focused style of Tavel with a tapered finish. I would drink this young.

Château de Manissy, Tête de Cuvée, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

This has wonderful freshness on the nose, just subtly underpinned by oak, which gives shape and length. Bright redcurrant, wild strawberry and violet flavours are supported by deep, driving acidity, then a long, mineral finish.

Domaine de la Mordorée, La Dame Rousse, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

Engaging aromas of strawberry and raspberry. Expressive, with good weight on the palate, which shows further precise red fruit flavours. Satin-textured with real brightness, freshness and a long finish. Delicious.

Prieuré de Montézargues, Tavel, Rhône, France, 2024

Smells like raspberry ripple ice cream, then it's dry on the palate with good acidity, ending with a herbal touch. This has freshness, detail, balance and interest, best drunk by itself but will stand up to light dishes. Lovely energy and floral notes.
