Domaine Laurent Cognard, Le Vieux Château, Montagny 1er Cru
Until 2004, this estate sold its grapes to the local co-op, which dominates production here. Laurent Cognard then returned to his family’s property and spent the next few years revamping its seven hectares. The terroir is very stoney, which gives an attractive steely minerality to this wine. There’s a creamy texture on the palate with fresh citrus characters running through to a zingy finish.
Price: £17.50-£19 (ib) Decorum Vintners, Private Cellar
