Le Petit Mouton, Pauillac, Bordeaux 2006
That classic Petit Mouton smokiness on the nose, cigar swirls and dark bitter chocolate, enticing and well judged. This can easily take another five years before giving up its secrets, but it’s fabulous right now, full of promise, this has drama, round brambly autumnal fruits, a shot through of coconut powder and cappuccino, and a lovely weight that expands and lifts towards the finish line. Blend here is a high 16% Cabernet Franc, with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and just 14% Merlot. Harvest September 20th to October 5th, great skill on show.
