Paolo Conterno, Barolo Ginestra Riserva 2006
The village of Monforte d’Alba in Barolo is known for its long-lived, weighty and complex Nebbiolo, and the vineyard of Ginestra produces some of the finest examples of this style. This traditional Barolo Riserva undergoes a long maceration followed by maturation in large oak barrels. Fruitcake and violet aromas with hints of rose petal suggest a lightness that belies the density on the palate. Intense baked strawberry, leather and spice are joined by a juicy mid-palate pomegranate character. Fine grained chalky tannins surface on the very long finish. An immaculate example of Barolo.
