Col di Lamo, Brunello di Montalcino 2010

Decanter average score 95

Owner Giovanna Neri has been making lovely wines for some years now. Her estate is located in Torrenieri, in the cooler northern sector, and spans three vineyards: Podere, Lamo and Diletta, the latter the name of Giovanna’s daughter. While brother Giovanni Neri has garnered much of the media attention, there is no doubt that Giovanna’s elegant, very drinkable but profound 2010 Brunello, made from organic grapes, steals the show this year.

Andrea Briccarello 95 Intense and complex aromas. Undertones of spices and leather with a fleshy mid-section. Palate is clean with good expression of red fruits, showing sour cherry acidity and violets. Dark spices on the end of the palate are surrounded by well-knit tannins. Fresh, vibrant and juicy.

Ian D’Agata 95+ Super-ripe aromas and flavours of red cherry, violet, candied raspberry, kirsch and sweet spices. Almost decadent, long and suave with youthfully chewy tannins and a trace of alcoholic warmth showing.

Michael Garner 95 Very forward and broad with abundant soft fruit aromas and spicy liquorice notes. Balanced palate, fleshy with some development. Long finish with notes of wood smoke and camphor. Will develop further.
