Mike Ritchie

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Quite indistinct aroma on entry, sour cherry and a chalky tannic structure allied to an uppish alcohol level. Hard finish at the moment, but may soften

Pedro Ballesteros

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Restrained, opens up little by little in a wild fresh original expression, earthy, sensual. Powerful but not aggressive, with a lovely rusticity and lots of personality. No interest in keeping it for a long time, the point is to enjoy its originality. A textbook mencía, lovely.

Sarah Jane Evans

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Blackcurrant and mint aromas, youthful and pure. Brisk attack with balanced slick of acidity, bright blackcurrant and bramble fruit with aniseed, silky mid palate, and firm tannic finish. Long, rounded, balanced, expressive, and bold.
