Over the past decade, Serbia has emerged as one of the most exciting wine-producing countries in southeast Europe. Driven by a new generation of ambitious winemakers, significant investment in vineyards and wineries, and a renewed focus on quality, the country’s wines have been gaining increasing attention from critics and consumers alike.

Serbian producers have revealed the remarkable potential of international grapes when grown on local terroirs, producing wines with a distinctive sense of place and character.

At the same time, fascinating wines made from indigenous varieties are introducing international audiences to flavours and styles that can only be found in the diverse winemaking regions of Serbia.

This steady rise in quality and international recognition is clearly reflected in the results of the Decanter World Wine Awards, where the country’s performance has been improving year upon year. This year’s edition saw Serbia achieve three Platinum and nine Gold medals, its best results yet, demonstrating the diversity, authenticity and world-class potential of the country’s wine regions.

As Wine Vision by Open Balkan returns this autumn, bringing together producers, buyers, journalists and wine professionals from across the world, these results provide an ideal introduction to one of Europe’s fastest-evolving wine scenes.
