Wine has been made at Vignamaggio since the 15th century. The 65ha of vineyard, however, are just one part of this 400ha estate. Perched in the rolling hills between Greve and Panzano, in the heart of Chianti Classico, Vignamaggio is a tribute to the polyculture that was once the norm in the region.

Combining forest, olive groves, fields of cereals and vegetables, sheep, and a herd of prized Cinta Senese pigs, the property is an idyllic traditional farm. But while tradition and history matter greatly at this Chianti Classico winery, the philosophy is entirely new, and is driven by a dedication to sustainability.

The diversity found across the estate is key – fostering harmony between people and their surroundings, with the various crops and livestock complementing each other to create a balanced ecosystem. Wine sits at the heart of this ecosystem – one built to address the challenges of climate change.

Vignamaggio was among the early estates to play a role in the development of the Consorzio del Chianti Classico, founded in 1924, and remains a standard-bearer for the region.

Today, the team works with precision viticulture and the native Sangiovese grape to craft wines that reflect this special place. The estate’s flagship bottling is Terre di Prenzano, a bright and fresh style of Sangiovese, packed with pure fruit.

The monovarietal Cabernet Franc di Vignamaggio is made from a selection of its oldest vines, and is aged in French oak.

Vignamaggio wants to share its perfect slice of Tuscany with others – hosting guests at the estate, with everything designed ‘per fare bello il giorno’ (to make the day wonderful). The ancient villa, that dates back to 1250, is currently undergoing a careful restoration.

The estate also offers a unique setting for weddings and celebrations, including a beautiful frescoed chapel, while other farm buildings can be booked by the room or as a package – ideal for your next Tuscan adventure.
