The 2023 vintage in Bordeaux is certainly heterogenous in quality, but not always according to price. While true that estates with the means to have properly handled the mildew attack in June, for example, hold an advantage, 2023 nonetheless includes many reasonably priced wines that deliver high quality.
There is no shortage for example of rather modestly priced wines from vineyards with cold clay and limestone in Right Bank appellations, especially from St-Emilion, but also from the Bordeaux Côtes like Castillon or so-called ‘satellite’ appellations like Fronsac.
Pomerol and Lalande de Pomerol also count some excellent bargain prices, even if tiny Pomerol is getting more globally expensive.
On the Left Bank, vineyards with superb Cabernet Sauvignons shined especially brightly when they managed to include Merlots of high enough quality to deliver both Cabernet gravitas and Merlot sumptuousness.

In the Graves and in Pessac-Léognan, cooler microclimates and soils fared well, and that includes lower priced brands.
Finally, 2023 proved successful for dry whites and sweet wines. Bargain prices can be found for dry whites that balance needed acidity with richness.
By the same token, lesser-known estates took advantage of the botrytis that mainly arrived in October for Sauternes and Barsac, resulting in sweet wines with verve as well as spice and opulence.
