Viña Pomal, Gran Reserva, Rioja 1978
Certainly mature on the nose with intense aromas of coffee and cured leather. On the palate, this is dry and still very fresh with fine tannins, cedar and undergrowth. But there’s also a primary element of roses and lifted creamy red fruits which are still very much in tact. A blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, this was fermented in concrete tanks before undergoing five years ageing in American oak.
