Korea: French wine sales up 58%

Despite seeing a marked downturn in sales across the globe, French wines are bucking the trend in South Korea.

Over the past two years, wine has grown increasingly popular in the Far-Eastern country. According to AC Nielsen Korea president Hugh Kwon this is due to the recent ‘well-being trend’ with consumers considering wine to be a healthy drink.

French wine has benefitted the most. Between 2002 and 2003, French wine sales have gone up by 40% and represent well over three quarters of all wine sold in Korea said French newspaper Libération.

According to analysts AC Nielsen wine sales in 2003 rocketed by 58%.
