Domaine Torredemer-Mangin, Papillon Rouge, Côtes Catalanes, Roussillon, France 2023

Aromas flit between cherry molasses or cherry compote and a smoky, leafy note, with some meaty, charry undertones. The palate is full and round, the finish has this blueberry and sweet berry compote note. The tannins are uber silky and soft, texturally it's really nice, quite viscous and full. There's a little dustiness. With air, lots more fruit comes through on the nose, Morello cherry and fresh fig. I was expecting more Carignan character but it's the Grenache that takes the stage here, and I was perhaps a little disappointed at that absence of savoury heft.
