This was a surprise gem in the Majestic autumn press tasting: a well-known and award-winning name in Marlborough (Saint Clair), but fielding a grape variety you rarely see here: Albariño. Majestic's New Zealand buyer managed to snap up 5,000 bottles across two vintages, in an effort by the retailer to show its customers that there is more to New Zealand white wine than Sauvignon Blanc. It really is very good indeed, a single-vineyard wine that has seen a small component aged in French oak for six months before being blended with a larger stainless steel-aged portion. Mouthwatering citrus and juicy peach fruit, with a lick of salinity. Would make a great and unusual match for slightly spicy seafood or fish dishes. Mix-six price: £17.99
