Hacienda Zorita, Abascal Vineyard Reserva, Ribera del Duero, Spain 2011

Interestingly, this outstanding 100% Tempranillo comes from a small, single vineyard opposite the hallowed terroir of Vega Sicilia and only 11,000 bottles were produced in 2009.

Even though the wine has spent two years in oak, the nose is pure primary black and blue fruit with a whiff of menthol. The palate is packed with tobacco, rippling cassis, minerals and a savoury toasty note. The tannins are super smooth and fine grained. Lovely.
