RED WINE of the week
Cune, Reserva, Rioja, Spain 2004 From one of the region's most reliable names comes this vibrant, lushly fruited Reserva. It has a juicy, red cherry nose with chocolatey undercurrents. There's some tar and spice on the finish, black fruit beforehand, and the brisk acidity gives it a fresh feel. Not overly complex or long, but a pleasant glass of wine. WHITE WINE of the week
Domaine de la Motte, Beauroy, Chablis 1er Cru, France 2006 The premier cru vineyards of Beauroy lie to the north-west of the town of Chablis. This is a strikingly good-value example, with a leesy roundess and texture. It retains the classic Chablis steel, is well balanced, and shows citrus, appley fruit.
