Red Blend under £10

And the winner is...

Tagus Creek, Shiraz & Trincadeira,
Alentejano, Portugal 2010 (13%)

Lovely fragrant bouquet of summer pudding and
crushed berries with a peppery edge. Juicy and light
in tannins, with a supple, quaffable ripeness.
Deliciously good value. Fantastic.
UK: £5.99; Asd, Tes

The appearance of just two wines in the final round of this Trophy belies the fierce competition that took place. Ultimately, our judges were wowed by this Portuguese offering’s blend of indigenous and international grape varieties. Winemaker João Portugal Ramos is one of Portugal’s great modernisers. With the Shiraz and Trincadeira for this entry-level red still hand-picked, it’s not difficult to understand why he has earned a reputation for making wines with an excellent price-to-quality ratio, and why Tagus Creek is one of the best performing Portuguese brands in the UK market.
