Legendary chef Pierre Koffmann returns

Renowned chef Pierre Koffmann is actively returning to the restaurant scene this summer.

Once dubbed ‘the best chef in England’ and mentor to a generation of British chefs that includes Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, and Jason Atherton, Koffman retired in 2003.

Now his new restaurant, Koffmann’s, will open in mid-June in the Berkeley hotel on the site of what had been the Boxwood Café.

For 25 years, Koffmann ran La Tante Claire, winning three Michelin stars and setting the standard for haute cuisine in London.

He says the new restaurant will be more relaxed and informal, ‘approachable, brasserie-type food in an atmosphere of bonhomie’.

Provincial French classics will be a highlight, especially those of his native Gascony.

Klaus Kabelitz, general manager of the Berkeley, called Koffmann’s return ‘a culinary dream come true,’ and noted that reservations are already being taken.

According to a spokesperson, though the opening date isn’t firm yet, callers are signing themselves up anyway.

Koffmann’s, The Berkeley, Wilton Place, London SW1X 7RL. Tel: +44 (0) 20 7235 1010; koffmanns@the-berkeley.co.uk
