Vasse Felix, Chardonnay, Margaret River, Australia 2013

Wow. What a treat to encounter this gorgeous Margaret River Chardonnay from one of the region's top names, with some serious age on it. It spent nine months in French oak barrels, half new, before being bottled in February 2014. Since then it's been slumbering in bottle, gaining in complexity as it ages. A lovely green-gold colour in the glass, this still displays youthful freshness, but is super expressive too. Lemon curd on buttered toast comes to mind when sipping this. It's generous, savoury, nutty and with a lick of salinity. Dangerously drinkable.
