This is a cracker of an addition to Majestic's Bordeaux line-up – an affordable claret with some age. Fontesteau is a long-established cru bourgeois château in the Haut Médoc, an area that is a great hunting ground for good-value, everyday drinking wines. Almost exactly a 50/50 split of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the wine spent a year in barrel before being bottled. It's almost ten years old now but the wine still has plenty of dark cassis and plum primary fruit. But there's a lot more going on, including some savoury, meaty tertiary notes, some spicy, toasty oak character, and a streak of graphite. Mellow, smooth and with good length, this delivers great bang for your buck. (Mix-six price: £12.99)
