Chosen by Majestic, Côtes du Rhône Villages, France 2022

Majestic's relatively new 'Chosen by' range aims to offer customers on tighter budgets quality wines in classic styles, with all wines sold at mix-six price under a tenner. This Côtes du Rhône Villages was among the more interesting of the wines, made for the retailer by the Cave des Papes co-op from fruit sourced from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Vinsobres and Costières de Nîmes. There is no oak used in the winemaking, and the wine is clean and fresh, with spicy, red and black berry fruit. It's a red that would have broad appeal, which is just what Majestic is intending with this label. Mix-six price: £8.99
