The sweet wines of Monbazillac in southwestern France are made from the same grapes as the famous sweet wines of Sauternes (Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc or Gris, and Muscadelle), but they generally command far lower prices. At a tenner for a full-sized 75cl bottle, this is fantastic value and would be perfect with chicken liver paté, blue cheese or roasted peaches. There's a hint of orange citrus and a weight of ripe and juicy fruit: pineapple, mango and peach. Delicious introduction to sweet wines if it's not a style you're familiar with.
